The story of the FLORA collection, told by Mădălina Andronic and Raouth Abulil

The FLORA collection marks our first collaboration with an artist — a milestone for what we want to offer to lovers of gold and beauty, as a unique design and artistic concept, here on ABULIL.

Illustrator Mădălina Andronic transported us to a delicate and expressive world of flowers, this time immortal, cast in gold into the most special jewelry. This is the story of the FLORA collection and the beautiful collaboration with Mădi — which we enjoyed every step of the way.

What is the story of your collaboration?

Raouth : I discovered Mădălina 13 years ago, by chance. I chose her to illustrate our wedding invitations because it seemed to me that what she created conveyed real emotions. I then followed her for this very reason. Now I realize that I followed her development — as a person, as an artist. She created a magical world into which she invites us, her followers. With each painting she creates, she reveals a little bit of her universe — full of magic, of authentic experience. That's what I like about Mădălina: she presents us with feelings that we have experienced but perhaps didn't know how to express until we looked at one of her illustrations. And that's how we came to this dream, for Mădălina to draw pure emotions, which we can then translate into gold. And I think we succeeded.

Mădălina : This whole story with Abulil seemed to me to be living proof of the saying "Life is round". 12 years ago, I was fresh out of college, and Raouth and her husband asked me to illustrate their wedding invitations, thus becoming my first clients ever, coming out of nowhere. The fact that he entrusted me with such an important task for one of the most important days in their family, continued to follow my work. Then, 12 years later, the fact that he thought of me again when he launched ABULIL was so moving for me. I felt that it was a natural step and a path... round. And I thank him for his appreciation and trust.

Where did the idea for the FLORA collection come from?

Raouth : The idea for the Flora for me collection started with the magnolia — the flower that reminds me of my grandmother. Mădălina has illustrated magnolias and other floral elements in many of her works, and as such, the creative process flowed naturally, organically.

Mădălina : Raouth initially suggested that I draw just a few pieces with flowers, to see if anything would connect, but these few later turned into a flower shop. Flowers and plant elements are omnipresent in my illustrations, so it was a pleasure to start from some of my most beloved works and imagine their essence worn in the form of jewelry: DANCE LESSON inspired the magnolia jewelry, PICNIC IN A POPPY FIELD inspired the poppies, and DAYDREAMING inspired the peonies.

What are your favorite pieces from the collection?

Raouth : Magnolia is my favorite because of the emotional charge but also because of the perfect lines given by Mădălina. But I have to admit that I was disturbed in a good way by the Clopoțel earrings. I love how they look in the ear!

Mădălina : I'm a big lover of earrings, so ALL earrings are my favorites — I would get my ears pierced to wear them all at the same time! But if I had to choose, I would say the Bell or Peony earrings.

What about your favorite flowers from nature?

Raouth : Magnolia, hydrangea, oleander—they all remind me of my grandmother and hold a special meaning for me.

Mădălina : My favorite flowers are carnations. Controversial topic, I know, but I find them gorgeous and I'm sorry that they're associated with cheap or unpleasant things. I plan to bring them back among the "good family" flowers, maybe even cast in gold, so if there are any carnation lovers around, give me a sign, girls!

What jewelry would you give as a gift to a friend?

Raouth : All of them if I could, haha. But when I choose a gift, I always think about the person's style and what they would prefer.

Mădălina : I would give Nușa the small ring with a lilac as a gift, because she likes delicate things and I thought of her when I drew it.

How do you see the woman who wears FLORA jewelry? What makes her stand out?

Raouth : The woman who wears a Flora jewel knows that she is more precious than pearls. She wears her smile as the most expensive accessory. And she lives every emotion to the fullest.

Mădălina : "Flora" is the goddess of flowers in Roman mythology, and I wanted all the women who wear the jewelry from the FLORA collection to feel like goddesses, like muses who spread beauty and femininity and sparkle at every step.
